ILW trials prove huge waste reduction potential

The initial trials of a waste volume reduction method, vitrification of ILW, have borne fruit.  The technique is intended for use on radioactive sludge extracted from fuel storage pools, amongst other things, and could reduce the volume of ILW wastes in the UK by 90%, significantly lowering the waste legacy’s burden.
